History

“My father will get ahead of me in everything, and will leave nothing great for me to do” (Alexander the Great from history to eternity). Alexander was king of Macedonia which at that time was much of the conquered world. Alexander was born in Pella, Macedonia to his father Phillip of Macedon and his mother Olympias princess of Epirus. As a child Alexander was strong and fearless which made him into one of the greatest generals in history. When Alexander was thirteen years old, he became the pupil of Aristotle (Alexander the Great from history to eternity). Studying under Aristotle is where Alexander learned how to be a great leader.
Alexander became king of Macedonia at the age of 20 where he went out and conquered most of the civilized world back then. In 331B.C Alexander conquered Persia defeating Darius III King of Persia. Conquering Persia was part of his father’s plan which his father was never able to do. For three years Alexander was ruler of the world and made his people worship him as a god. Alexander’s ambition made him into the great known ruler still today that conquered the world. Alexander died on June 13, 323 B.C due to the disease of malaria. After Alexander’s death his kingdom split because Alexander left no choice for anyone to take over. The quote by John F. Kennedy, “Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future”, meaning is so deep that it can relate to; film, person, literature, music, sports, technology, and history.

Inventions

“I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work” (Edison). Thomas Edison known for his inventions that still have a huge impact on today’s world. People think that Thomas Edison invented the light bulb but in fact he did not. Edison improved a 50-year-old idea devolved by Humphrey Davy which Edison bought the patent from. Thomas never gave up trying to improve the light bulb he had many trails which did not work, but he kept with the idea and revolutionized the light bulb. In 1879, using lower current electricity, a small carbonized filament, and an improved vacuum inside the globe, he was able to produce a reliable, long-lasting source of light (Bellis). Edison's eventual achievement was inventing not just an incandescent electric light, but also an electric lighting system that contained all the elements necessary to make the incandescent light practical, safe, and economical (Bellis). The success of Edison made him a very wealth individual. The light bulb was spread around the world; Edison created a company named Edison General Electric. After awhile Edison’s company changed its name to a company that is still with us today known as General Electric “GE”.

“Because I was able to experience heaven,” he says, “I was able to prepare friends for it. And now I am preparing you” (Piper). 90 Minutes in Heaven written by Don Piper explains his personal experience in heaven. In 1989 Don was coming home from a religious convention when a semi truck had a head on trash to his car. Don instantly died at the scene of the accident which he shares with us his experience in Heaven. He explains it as the ultimate place where he meets all the people which he had an impact on in heaven. He said that there was the sound of gospel music which was in perfect harmony. He was brought back to life when a pastor went into the car and prayed for him. After a few minutes Don came back to life which is still unexplainable. Throughout his extended recovery Don at many times wished that he would die because he wanted to get back to heaven. He wonders for a year why god would bring him back to extreme pain and unable to do the things he loved to do anymore.
Don changed his attitude after a friend came into his room and told him the reason God brought him back to earth was to share his experience in heaven with the whole world. Through his tremendous pain and incapable to do the things he did he fought through it and made a tremendous recovery. He is able to walk and do many of the things he was able to do because he kept his heart and try to make the best of the situation. Without the help of friends, family, and the doctors he would have never made it. He thought about his children’s future which made him be with us today. Don today goes all around the world explaining his experience in Heaven and is a best selling author of 3 million copies sold of 90 Minutes in Heaven.

Music

“Time” a classic song by the world famous band Pink Floyd internal meaning in the lyrics express a meaning that is deeper than most people would interpret it. The song starts off as someone does not know what they should accomplish with their lives and does nothing with it. All they do is sit home and wait for something to happen, but in reality they need to go into the real world and try to figure out what they should do because you control your own life. In the end of the song he realizes that he should have gone out to make something out of his life, but he was too late.
The reason for Pink Floyd to write this song was, Pink Floyd wanted to make a song that tells people that everyone need to grab control of their own destiny, and everyone has a point in life. If people do not go out and try to do something then their life was a waste. Everyone has their own destiny the hard part is to know when that time has come, and when that opportunity shows go after it and try your hardest so your goal in life is accomplished.

Film

“You got a dream... You gotta protect it. People can't do somethin' themselves, they wanna tell you you can't do it. If you want somethin", go get it. Period. (Gardner) this quote explains perfectly how the quote by John F. Kennedy relates to the Pursuit of Happyness. In the movie the Pursuit of Happyness is a tremendous story of how Christopher Gardner played by Will Smith came from being literally on the street to become a multimillionaire. Throughout the whole movie Chris was thinking about not only his own future but also his son’s future. When he was a kid he never saw his father and at the age of twenty eight he meets him for the first time. Chris said, “I met my father for the first time when I was 28 years old. I made up my mind that when I had children, my children were going to know who their father was” (Gardner). This quote explains his dedication and how strong he was when nothing was going the way he planned he thought about his son’s future and changes his career so that he could provide for his son. They were hard times for Chris living on the street, having no place called home, and living everyday thinking how he was going to be able to provide for his son. Today Chris owns his own firm and will never have to think about how he will be able to provide for his family. Chris is a strong person because even when there was nothing to live for he stuck by and tried to make the best life and future for his son.

Personal

“Hope is a waking dream” (Aristotle) explains my hopeful career life in one sentence. Throughout the years of my life I have finally started to realize I need to start to think about my future. As a senior in high school the word future is a frightening thing, but this year I have started to focus more about my own future and what it is going to take to reach my goal.
This year I have to make a huge decision that decision is what college I will be attending for the fall of 2009. I have narrowed my choices between Florida State University and Clemson University, but this choice will shape my career decision in becoming a medical doctor. I have always wanted to become a doctor since I could remember. It has always been my dream because I love to help people and I have been very fascinated by how I will be able one day to save someone life that is sick or injured.
As a senior I have finally started to buckle down on school and my life. Before I used to just do everything by the bare minimum, but this year it finally kicked in that if I want to be successful I need to get a solid work and study habit. Thankfully I found that habit and it will help me so that I am successful in my studies at one of the University I will be attending. Everyday I think about what it is going to take to become a doctor, and with the change I have made I am confident that one day in the future I will reach my goal and will be a doctor.
